Team Leaders

Team Leaders (TLs) are upper-class students who volunteer to lead small groups or teams of 5-6 first semester students in GT 1000 classes. The team leaders serve as a bridge between the instructor and freshmen and between the Georgia Tech community and the first semester students. They assist in planning and teaching the course, facilitate class discussions, arrange for guest speakers, develop interactive exercises, and participate in assessing student performance and transition to college.

An effective Team Leader is expected to attend all classes and to share something of their personal experiences as Georgia Tech students such as triumphs, defeats, and overcoming problems. They are required to meet weekly with the instructor and to meet with and communicate with their team members outside of class time. Team leaders are encouraged to keep up with what is going on with the students on their team in terms of grades, accomplishments, adjustments, and problems.

A group of Team Leaders serves in an advisory capacity for the GT 1000 class and on behalf of all team leaders. The Team Leader Advisory Board (TLAB) works year round to improve GT 1000 and to coordinate activities related to Team Leaders such as recruitment, training, and appreciation programming.

Current and prospective Team Leaders should visit the Team Leader Homepage at http://www.beateamleader.gatech.edu.
